Social networks

Facebook Vs Twitter

Social networking has rocketed in the past 10 years with (put a statistic in here global stat of people using the sites).Sites are constantly coming along each being more and more advanced. There are roughly (stat on how many social networking sites there are) available online some of the more mainstream sites being Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook was founded in February 2004 in the United States by a young man called Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook is an online social networking service. The whole idea behind Facebook was to create a directory for students at some American universities. That’s where its name derives from, a directory with a face to it. 500 million people use Facebook and more than 250 million people use Facebook from their mobile devices. It’s the largest social networking site around.

Twitter was founded in March 2006 in the United States and its headquarters are based in San Francisco. The CEO of Twitter is a man called Dick Costolo. Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read posts known as "tweets". It can also be seen as a micro blogging site which is accessible by registered as well as unregistered users. The main difference being the registered users are able to send and receive tweets whereas the unregistered users can only read them if the twitter page is public. There are roughly 288 million activetwitters and 17% of them are in the United Kingdom.

I am both a Facebook and Twitter user and enjoy using both sites. A lot more of my friends use Facebook rather than twitter so I’m able to stay in contact with a wider range of people on that site. However with twitter, I'm able to keep up to date with all the current “going ons” either in regards to celebrity culture or current affairs globally. I know I could still access similar information on facebook but sometime, celebrity pages or other pages I find aren’t updated as often as twitter accounts. I do however use facebook daily myself and twitter I flick back and forth every other day.

So you’ve heard all about them which one do you prefer?
